The 31 Days of Halloween

Every year, Liz and I binge watch as many scary movies as we can in October. It's such a fun tradition and we usually find some really great movies as well as some absolute stinkers. This year was no different. Here's what we watched:

The winners for movies we have not seen are...

1) Nurse
Nurse is an awesome indy movie about a crazed nurse that kills her patients. It kind of puts you on edge while still having some campy (but not too campy) elements. And it was hilarious at times. It reminded me of American Mary (another awesome movie) but with Nurses. Shot and acted well.

2) Human Centipede 3 The Final Sequence 
The Human Centipede movies have been gnarly since the first one. The first one was shocking enough. The second was just down right awesomely nasty. But the third one takes all of that to super crazy-land. It was possibly the most un-politically correct movie I have ever seen. It was also totally funny. The prison warden (also the bad guy from the first movie) was absolutely out of control. It's too bad this is the last one.

3) VHS
I've been seeing VHS pop up Netflix for a long time and I've heard enough about it to peak my interest. Basically, some buglers break into a house to steal a VHS tape but there are a lot of tapes. As they go through them, there are a ton of strange murders that have been filmed. My favorite was the demon/succubus thingy. A totally fun watch.

The Big losers are

1) 131313
I don't know how this even got made. It was weird, and I still don't really know what was going on. The clocks all said 131313... and there was a date of 131313... I sort of get that they could get away with making 11111 a few years ago because that was sort of a thing but now... it's just a wreck.

2) The Big Bad
Here's a terrible Werewolf movie. It's hard to watch and whoever made it considers themselves a real artist... It's not hard to watch because it's gory or anything, it's just confusing, badly done and boring as all get out.

The 32 Days of Halloween

Every year during the month of October and the few days surrounding it, Lizzie and I make it a point to only watch horror movies in honor of our favorite holiday. Halloween! The awesome part is we get to discover a lot of good movies that we'd never give a chance before. This year was no different. we laughed at some and were quite impressed with the others. Here's the breakdown for 2014:

A weird, gory story of a med student that gets into the world of body modification not only for revenge.

The Big Loser for 2014 was;
Forbidden Girl
Talk about lame, and bad acting, overacting and not in a funny way. Just bad, so bad in fact, I can't remember much of the plot. Perhaps because there wasn't much of one. The pic below looks much cooler than it was.

So check the top 4 out. Although some of them might be a bit low budget, Bloodwork (Not Clint Eastwood) and Devil's Pass, were pretty cool takes on some fresh horror ideas.

The 35 Days of Halloween

Halloween is our favorite holiday. To celebrate, we watched a crap ton of horror movies (exclusively) all throughout October. We actually started a few days before October and ended a few days after. We were obsessed. We saw everything from classic horror movies to the lowest budget flicks we could get our hands on.

and the winner is... The Collector - Pretty different for a horror movie with a clever killer and a super tough thief turned hero.

Nominees for Most truly frightening of 35DoH2012

and the winner is... The Fourth Kind - This one was kind of shocking how real it seemed. It was filmed as a sort of documentary and had a special message at the end from the actors... was it real after all?? It actually had me guessing and brought out several "Holy crap, for real?" moments.

Nominees for worst (and sort of best in the worst possible way) are:

and the winner is... Wake The Witch- Beyond Terrible acting. Hilarious makeup and a story that makes absolutely no sense at all. If you have an old video camera and a terrible story, you could make this movie.

and the winner is... Fright Night - This remake of the classic horror movie is one of the best horror remakes I've ever seen. It's witty, funny, and a bit freaky in a very modern way. It's actually become a movie we watch over and over again.
